Lear is an economic consulting firm that specializes in applying microeconomic modelling and econometric tools to address competition and regulatory issues. In the years since it was set up, Lear’s staff has advised a large number of companies, in Italy and abroad, in a wide variety of sectors, ranging from telecommunications and media, banking and financial services, to consumer goods, retailing, road, air and maritime transportation. We support firms and their legal advisers in the ex-ante assessment of the competitive implications of mergers, acquisitions, agreements and unilateral conducts and we provide expert advice and testimony during proceedings with national competition authorities and the European Commission for alleged breaches of the antitrust legislation. We analyze and assess, on behalf of our clients, the economic merits of allegations of foreclosure and exclusionary conduct, tying and bundling, vertical restraints, collusive behavior, abuse of (collective) dominance, and anticompetitive pricing. We provide litigation support and perform damage assessments in the event of IP or trademark infringements, breach of contracts and anticompetitive practices. Lear is looking for a Junior Consultant to support its existing staff on the delivery of their current portfolio of work and to build on the continuing success and growth of their business. The permanent position is based in Rome, but may occasionally require to travel in Italy or abroad.

The key responsibilities of a Junior Consultant are:

  • work closely with the project manager to define the project objectives and strategy;
  • drafting of reports;
  • interact with clients, assist in presenting analyses and progress reporting to clients;
  • data management and analysis.

Candidates should:

  • hold at least an MSc in Economics;
  • have at least one-year work experience either in economic consulting, or in a competition or regulatory agency;
  • be fluent in English. The knowledge of Italian or other languages is a plus;
  • have good communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • be self-motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities;
  • be an expert user of Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • be familiar with either Stata or R;
  • be prone to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Salary will depend on experience.

  • hold an MSc in Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or Statistics;
  • have proven analytical skills;
  • have at least one-year work experience as a data analyst;
  • have practical experience in statistical analysis with either Stata or R;
  • be an expert user of Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • be fluent in English. The knowledge of Italian or other languages is a plus;
  • have good communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • be self-motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities;
  • be prone to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

In addition, Lear undertakes studies and research projects for trade associations, regulatory agencies and public institutions in the field of industrial organization and competition economics.

Lear is offering a six month internship ideally starting from July 2019 to students that are completing, or are in the course of completing, their studies. The position is based in Rome. Successful applicants are expected to support senior staff and are typically involved in data collection and analysis, desk research, preliminary drafting of reports.

Candidates should:

  • have completed their Bachelor and Master in Economics (or be about to complete their Master);
  • have an interest in industrial economics and competition policy;
  • have good quantitative and analytical skills;
  • be willing to work in team and be able to meet tight deadlines;
  • be fluent in English. The knowledge of other languages is a plus;
  • have a very good knowledge of Microsoft Office. The knowledge of statisticalmathematical softwares, such as Stata, E-Views and Matlab, is an advantage; – have a proactive attitude and self-motivation.
