Duties and Responsibilities

This role is responsible for leading the full range of activities required to conceptualize, prepare, submit, and manage SBIR grant proposals to NIH, NSF, DoE, and other US Government Agencies. Responsible for sourcing new funding opportunities, producing highest quality written scientific documents for funding applications and publication, including writing, editing, and proofreading grant proposals, as well as supporting end-client with interface with the Funding Agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyse and critically evaluate scientific papers, technical documents and business plans related to innovative technologies and new product development ideas
  • Draft high quality grant applications; translate scientific abstracts into lay terms
  • Identify fit between granting agencies’ research needs and the end-client’s product roadmap and technical focus.
  • Manage deadlines and deliverables and keep all involved parties on schedule
  • Perform literature/product searches on new ideas to understand and assess novel advancements as they relate to end client’s product roadmap.
  • Work closely with technical and business staff in developing successful SBIR/STTR grant proposals
  • Identify and effectively describe the business model and strategy of the new product to be developed
  • Plan the industrialisation activities, including the work-packages, GANTT chart and budgeting
  • Deliver project meetings and maintain relationship with national and international companies to undertake new product development processes
  • Supply chain development involving the preparation and negotiation of commercial agreements with industrial partners and service providers
  • Development of full commercialisation and financial plans for project results exploitation
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills and qualifications

  • PhD in Biotechnology, Molecular/Human/Micro/Marine/Cell/Computational Biology, Bio-chemistry, Neuroscience or Genetics.
  • Ideally holds a PM certificate (PMP, Prince2 etc.) or MBA but not essential.
  • Communication for Impact: Exceptional verbal and written English language communications skills, presentation skills, diplomacy, perceptual objectivity, active listening.
  • Highly analytical.
  • Business language fluency.
  • Capable of autonomous objective-oriented work .
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent client relationship management.
  • Well organised and keen to take on responsibility.

Previous experience required:

  • Ideally experience with NIH, NSF or DoE SBIR proposals, other US Funding Agencies and other government funding mechanisms considered a plus.
  • Complex network management with different multidisciplinary stakeholders involved.
  • Business plan preparation considered a plus.
  • Any kind of involvement in start-ups/spinoffs considered a plus.

Job Description

We are looking Grant Writers to join Alien Technology Transfer team in one of our European offices. Key qualities include being able to demonstrate an entrepreneurial mind-set, being highly self-motivated, and have a high-degree of stamina to work within an ambitious and goal driven environment. The role will see you undertake the full responsibility of the proposal preparation for international business and industrialisation projects, from concept analysis and development to business pitch writing. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analysing and critically evaluating business plans and technical documents related to innovate technologies and business

Main requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the following hard sciences, such as Computer sciences, Electronics or one of the following engineering disciplines: Biomedical, Aerospace, Environmental, Mechatronic, bio-mechanical, chemical, industrial, material or civil.
